Two decades were spent inside the systems themselves — Linux estates, virtualisation platforms, cloud infrastructure, DevOps pipelines and security operations — before the work turned to governance. That sequence matters. Controls written by someone who has carried a pager read differently, and hold differently, than controls written from a template.
